Given the recent issues with Boeing, and the many people associated with the company who keep dying or having their tires slashed, a lot of us are reconsidering our upcoming plane travel.


“Maybe,” we think, “I’d be safer if I took a different form of transit — say, a train!”


It’s a good thought. However, while trains are generally safer than planes, there’s always a chance that something like this can happen:

According to Global News, a train carrying wooden railway ties was riding along when it suddenly burst into flames. As a result, the train was sent careening through London, Ontario, shooting flames from its top while firefighters worked to quell the blaze.


The fire was stopped after almost two hours, with much of the danger avoided thanks to the fact that the on-fire cars were detached from those that contained “some possible dangerous goods.” That’s right, London, Ontario residents — you can rest easy knowing that the smoke you’re hacking up on your way to work isn’t as toxic as it could be.



How and why did this happen? No one knows. Officials involved say they’re investigating the incident, but for the time being, they simply recommend that those in the area close their windows to limit their exposure to train fire smoke. Thanks, guys!


Luckily, the actual damage resulting from the incident was limited. No one was seriously injured, and the financial impact was limited to around $35,000 CAD for both the train and a nearby building, which is just under $26,000 in Freedom Dollars.
